Our Statements for the approach of World Cultures

Statements

Universal Human Rights | The Human Rights are based on universal values and the non-negotiable basis for all cultures. We should support reform-minded groups in other cultures in strengthening human rights diplomatically. Statements

Recognition of Cultural Achievements | The approach of World Cultures requires to recognize and appreciate the achievements of the other cultures. A model may be be the early civilizations of the ancient Orient: They had an intense, surprisingly flexible and pragmatic intercultural interaction with each other.

Identify Opportunities of Change | The approach to other cultures enables and requires the continuous self-reflection of our own values. The integration of cultures is an ongoing process. How much could curiosity about other people and life concepts enrich us, if we manage to learn from past experiences and to channel the fear of change and of losing our privileges. We are aware, however, that the past is visible and the future is invisible. We should discuss our opportunities and risks unconditionally and make them tangible.

Proactive Dealing with the Past | We must become aware of our historic dealing with other societies – even violent, such as during the colonial period – also from the perspective of other cultures. Our conciliatory handling is needed.
